My average day today

Well, here i am again....oh i know it's been a long time...i've only been reminded a kazillion times! Any hoo, i don't have much to say tonight. I've recently found this way amazing website called MyLifeIsAverage.com and it has totally changed my life....haha it just plain cracks me up! It has a bunch of stories from people about average things that have happened to them and some of them are pretty funny....hee hee. For instance, today i read one that said "The other day I learned that if you say 'beer can' with an English accent, you're saying 'bacon' with a Jamaican accent. Mind blown." now i spend my spare time saying beer can to entertain myself and i just crack up every time...it's almost as funny as that YouTube video that's called "make you laugh in 3 seconds" and it's this dog running with this cheesy music and it crashes into a mailbox and it just makes you laugh every time no matter how many times you watch it. There is also a video on AFV that i saw with this guy who is roller blading at an indoor skate park and he's trying to act all cool and he skates down this ramp backwards, falls and smacks into this poll in between his legs and i just crack up...things like this crack me up...people's pain cracks me up...but that doesn't make me a meanie...i just laugh at things.
Anyhoobeans....haha...um, i went and rode my grandma shirley's friend MJ's endurance horses on wednesday...wed nes day...that's spelled funny...and it was SO fun. MJ rides at Antelope Island every year for the Antelope island endurance race with her horses Bo and Rum an they are SO cute and she said i could ride Bo next year in one if i come ride him a lot and that should be pretty dandy....OH! speaking of dandy, my friend Amy at school looked up what Dandy meant in the dictionary and it means a finely and elegently dressed man and now we've started a new trend and people say dandy a lot....go us!
In conclusion, i've saved my best story for last. Today, in Mrs. Lambourne's EXTREMELY boring Geometry class, i was very sleepy because it is right after lunch and it's like really hot in there and stuff. This kid, named Joe, who sits behind me fell asleep during one of Mrs. Lambourne's lectures on triangles and i stared at him for a while. Suddenly, i heard a gasp and a crash. I saw his papers fly and his pencil hit the kid sitting next to him. Me and this girl Bailey sat and laughed and laughed. He said he dreamed he fell off a building in his dream and he jerked awake. We've all had those dreams so it was hilarious. The best part was, Mrs. Monotone-Boring teacher didn't even notice and kept right up with the lecture. It definately brightened my day~

Christmas in October

Why do you hear Christmas music here on our blog today? A brief explanation...

So for most of the world, October 1st marks the date when kids begin to plan out their costumes; when moms break out the Halloween decorations and when you can find every old cheesy horror movie on late night TV. I have to admit I've never been a big fan of Halloween. Don't get me wrong -- if you want to give me some candy I'll take it, but don't make me dress up for it. If I have to dress up I'd rather just go buy some candy and save myself the hassle. With an attitude like that, October 1st has little to do with Halloween at the Thomas household. So here it is --October is the "pre-Christmas" month.

What does that mean? It means that the boys get up on the roof to get the Christmas lights hung -- it just makes sense; we live in a climate where snow is likely to fall in late October. But the real events triggered by the passing of September are that we start watching Christmas movies and listening to Christmas music. Some say it's just wrong; that it's too early to start watching little Kevin McAllister take down Marv and Harry, too early to head back to Vermont with Bing and Danny for a little White Christmas, too soon to enjoy Tim Allen in any of his 3 Christmas movie offerings (trust me, I could go on and on); or too early for listening to Bing, Frank, Mel, Harry (Connic Jr.). It's one thing to listen in your own house, which we do. Nothing brings on the Halloween spirit in our home like carving the pumkins with Harry C. Jr belting out a lively version of Sleigh Bells. It's all together different to listen in your office and in the car -- out where all can hear and judge and laugh and... Well, I am here today to publicly announce that WE LISTEN TO CHRISTMAS MUSIC IN OCTOBER. Sorry if this offends your Halloween spirit. It's just what we do. If you feel compulsed to short change us when we trick or treat as some sort of retaliatory defense of all things Halloween, then so be it.

And for all of you who worry that we're also short changing Thankgiving -- not so fast. I love it and give the holiday it's due. You see, in my mind, it's the PERFECT mid point of our Christmas holiday season. This also marks THE weekend when you must change over all decorations in the home to Christmas. Just do it -- you'll thank me later.

I have to admit that I've been muting the Christmas music in my office when people walk in -- not necessarily because I can't hear what they have to say, but because I've been a little embarassed to have them know I'm listening to Christmas music already. No more. I'm out and proud of it! As my good friend Johnny Mathis put it "its the most wonderful time of the year". That's my story and I'm sticken to it.

It's 9:30 NOT bedtime

Hi there - Taylor here!
How's everyone? I'm fantastic. I am 15 for the record and i drive our large, hugish bus Cozmo whom we've named lovingly after Cosmo Cougar of the BYU cougars...hee.
Right now it is only 9:30 although mother thinks it's bed time and sends us all to bed anyways. She knows i won't be asleep until probably 10 or 10:30 yet it's been insisted that i get to bed at 9. She is the only one that will actually go to sleep now...tee hee.
Well, i'm going to Bingham. We just got back from UEA weekend which was four days of pure bliss and joy for me. On Thursday, after a hard and stressful 3 day week filled with bad chicken sandwiches, gay spanish teachers, and cold sleety rain, the weekend was finally here. I spent my thursday doing pretty much nothing....wasting time...i'm pretty good at that. Then at 5 i went and helped mary with her 5 o'clock lesson. I was supposed to ride after but then i forgot to call my mommy and she came too early to pick me up and then she didn't want to leave so i had to leave my poor tykers alone and unridden...poor guy. Then on friday i went tothe BYU game with Craig and my dad and Chuckles and me and Craig got a Cougar Tail which is a 3 foot (yes - you heard right) long Maple Bar...yummy! THe funny thing was that me and courtney ate half of that huge delinchious thing in the first quarter and then felt so sick we couldn't finish it. Haha we are tards....just kidding...tards is short for Retards..and that is a lie because i am NOT a retard...maybe a turd..no no you have that wrong...i'm neither a tard or a turd. A turd is a poo. Anyway, we had these "scottish" guys behind us (they weren't really scottish) who would yell "Eurrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhunnnnhhhhhhhuhhhhhhhh!!!!!" every time the play was about to start. They also spoke in fake accents...tards...now they are the REAL tards. Then we had this idiot in front of us who would yell at me because i was kicking him. Not really, i didn't even touch the guy...tard...and then he'd chat with dad and chuck like he was this nice guy but you and me both know he wasn't.
Then i had a rodeo on Saturday and rode Tyke in the events and did good and ate cookies and burned my tounge on hot chocolate and ate pizza and breadsticks. Yum! Then i slept at Aunt Malia's for General Conference. We played "after the manner of the adverb" which was freaky hilarious! Then we played signs and grandma T kept forgetting she had the sign and forgot to pass it...my sign was a gun. Then we played the laughing game and spencer was trying to make Amanda laugh and jumped out from behind the couch hissing like a cat. I laughed and almost peed my pants. Then Alana stuck like 5 candy corns in her lips and looked like she had teeth and that was really funny.
Now it is 9:40 and i must retire to the bed that belongs to me. Well, first i am going to put on my "sweeeats" (said in the Nacho Libre voice) and then go to bed.
Well, good night
(maybe i'll do more tomorrow....after all, i still have an hour til i really go to bed :D)

It's Fall

Today is October 5th and we are loving this FALL weather! We had to add our favorite rap music to the blog! We had everybody dancing and Taylor video taping all the 80's dancing!!

My Poor Toe!

Okay, so I can't get a picture of my toe off my phone and onto the computer...but hear is the story. I had just brought my 27 5th graders in from lunch and was walking up to the front of the room. I was going around a table and as I was taking a step, my shoe came off but I kept walking. I guess you could say that my baby toe did the splits around the chair leg. When I finally looked down, it was pointed straight out from my foot!! Not facing the right way! Needless to say I did not have all my faculties about me because it would have been a really cool picture to get. But I was a bit distracted from the pain and such. When I finally sat down, and I realized that I had really broken my toe, the kids were very helpful in getting me my cell phone so I could call for some help. Paula, my team teacher, Evan and a rolling chair got me down the hallway (yes laughing at how ridiculous it all was) and out to Kat's waiting car. I still couldn't look at my foot, but the shooting pain told me I was still needing a Doctor. So off we went to the Insta-Care. We hopped into the office and got a few staring looks, not "let me open the door for you," but just looks. The xray showed a nice little break right where my baby toe meets my foot! It is a fabulous shade of purple now with little red lines running up between my toes - it would be great for Halloween! So back to school I went the next day and have been crazy ever since. This is the first chance I have had to document this whole crazy thing and I will have to wait until later to get the picture on the blog. Sorry, but tune in later :)

more Yuba fun

just some more pictures from Yuba - cute Evan and Madisen cooling off! Then there is cute Josh, who fell asleep under the seat cushion - what a cutie! Dallin showing us how it's done on the knee board and Evan keeping things under control with the warning flag :)

Fun in the Sun

These are pictures from our day at Yuba Lake with our cousins and the Yates Family. The kids and I all skied and tried the "taco". The girls even started the day with a "visor" tribute to Grandma Shirley! The weather was beautiful and calm for most of the day which makes for very nice skiing!

California Pictures

What a fun time!

California Dreamin'

We headed out after Taylor's party and our first stop was Uncle Chris who treated us to a great BBQ, swimming and relaxing after our long drive. You can see Taylor sporting the GW hairstyle and the boys showing off their six-pack abs. We got up early Monday and had Dutch Babies with Uncle Chris (yum!) and then headed into Palm Desert. What a great time!! Swimming, making home movies, laughing with cousins, Tuesday Taco's, Fruyo's Yogurt, WOW its hot!!! We did make it over to Laguna Beach and spent the day at Crystal Cove. Just gorgeous! Wish we had a beach to live by - that is definitely something I miss living here is Utah. We stayed for a week and then brought the cousins back to Utah with us for some more fun!!

Happy 15th!!

So Taylor and Edward had a fine time on Taylor's birthday. She took him everywhere :) We took a few friends and actually went to see Harry Potter's The Half Blood Prince. Then it was home for pizza, silly string, and of course, looking at Edwards' poster!

little miss Taylor has lost her wisdom

Here lies Tayloroo without wisdom teeth. She doesn't even remember having this picture taken - that's how out of it she was. It took 20 minutes to remove four teeth etc. and over 30-40 minutes to get her to wake up again. Sweet little girl kept saying that she felt a little weird around her mouth? Is there something in my mouth mom? Yes Taylor and you will be numb for 3-4 hours...But Mom, I thing there is something in my mouth? Really Taylor??? It was very funny! So she survived and even managed to eat homemade ice cream for the 4th of July!

Fourth of July!!

Okay so not everyone gets their picture on the blog - but this was July4th around our house. Lot's of fireworks, marshmellows, bbq, and of course homemade ice cream! Not all of us had so much fun...poor Taylor got her wisdom teeth out :(

Summer Games - Go Rebels!

So let's see, the last time I posted we had returned from Hawaii - okay so it's been awhile. We had a terrific end of the school year and start of summer. We started it out at the Summer Games in Cedar City, UT. Evan, Taylor and I headed down with the USA Premier to see what we could do. The boys played terrific and FUN MOM was right behind them. We even had to try a little diet coke and mentos trick to get the party started!! Taylor and Rhonda have threatened to make me a t-shirt but I haven't seen one yet. The story goes that when I told Evan I could actually go to the summer games this year, because I would not be teaching, he replied, but I thought Dad was going. I said, I know but I can go this year and it would be do much fun.....his reply, but Dad is more fun... So I told Evan that I would be fun mom and we would have more fun than last year with Dad. The joke was - go ask FUN MOM she can't say no! Except for getting locked out of our room (they had to use a saws-all to get us in) it was quite an adventure. We had lots of good food, swim time and of course, soccer games. We had a pretty good record going in - but unfortunately we lost in the semi-finals to some orange team - I will not even name them!!! The refs got a bit heated but I won't just blame them - okay I'm the mom so I can blame them. The other team was even embarrassed about the refs. Hopefully they will not be back next year, but WE WILL!!! Way to go USA Rebels!

Aloha Friends

Here we are in the village of Samoa at the PCC in Hawaii. We had the most wonderful vacation and this village was definitely a highlight. The boys want to become island boys and never return to the cold harsh land called Utah. We arrived in Honolulu on March 17 after a long 7 hour flight. The kids didn't know what had hit them. After getting our car and luggage we were off to shop for food! After Sam's Club and Walmart we were headed to the North Shore. It was a getting dark by them and Aunt Malia, who was leading the drive, had a few problems navigating, but we won't hold it against her. We finally got to the house and were very excited. The first morning everyone was up by 4:00am because of the time difference. However we held off until 6:00am before we actually left the house. We spent most of our days at the beach, Sunset and Waimea Bay were our favorites, alternating between Dole Plantation pineapple ice cream and Aoki's Shave Ice. (yes, it is called shave ice NOT shaved ice...a point that drove Will crazy!) We also spent 3 days at the Polynesian Cultural Center. We loved visiting the different island villages and seeing the shows. The kids especially liked getting tattoo's in Fiji and Tahiti :) Their favorite was in Samoa where this wonderful man, see picture, showed us how to make fire (called "he" in Japanese) and how to break a coconut and scrape the meat out to get milk. We actually videoed the whole thing when Dallin got to go up and drink the milk - I know, Dallin of all people drinking something interesting. He had to drink all of it, because of course, well look at the guy, are you going to tell him no? Will turned into the angry Hawaii once on the island and pronounced all the Hawaiian words with his "angry hawaiian" voice. "Kahuku, Po'pokea, Haliewa" to name a few of his favorites. We also visited Pearl Harbor and took to tour out to the Arizona Memorial. The kids loved snorkeling - especially Shark's Cove on the north shore. The Pali lookout of was the most windy - but it is where Evan decided he would be on King Kamahameha's side and force the others off the cliff. We all hiked the 282 steps up to the top of Diamond Head and took beautiful pictures of Waikiki - that was the closest we ever got. We all decided that this was our new second home and felt we better visit often because we needed to be reminded of all the things we loved. We had a great time meeting Great Aunt Pat and Kapewa who came for dinner. All in all this was probably vacation #1 for the Thomas Family

Who's that couple...

I know I'm a little behind... in my bloggin but here is a fun picture of Will and I at the Sorensen's 25th Wedding anniversary party. It was back in February and we got to dress up as if it were 1984 again. Looking HOT!!!

Draper Temple Open House

Here we are this past week with the Murphy and Blair Families at the Draper Temple Open House. The temple is so beautiful and we were all excited to go and walk through. Evan was especially happy since, "he is the only one in our family who isn't old enough yet....its not fair!"
The kids (...Will) really loved the soft chewy cookies provided in the Stake Center after the tour. How many did you say you had Dallin???
I'm too embarrassed to say~ Anyway, look closely and you can see Taylor has one hidden in her pocket :)

Winter Scout Camp

Here are Will and Dallin at the Klondike Derby at Jordanelle Reservoir. As you can see it is not waterskiing weather, but they had a good time. Dal and the scouts built the sled and raced it around learning safety and survival techniques. Camping in the snow - ya gotta love it!

Let me explain...

You see, I'm usually pretty good at making jammies for my kids. I've been making them for years, but as you can see this Christmas was not quite up to par. Poor Dallin, as you can tell by the picture above got the short end of the stick and was not happy about it. He "posed" for this picture under duress. When he tried his on pair, they were absolutely the smallest pants ever! We tried so hard to get a picture before he took them off but we were laughing so hard we couldn't get one in time. We did however get one of Evan wearing the pants and as you can see the waist is about the same as the legs. Needless to say, I owe Dallin a better pair of jammies, which he just reminded me of. Unfortunately his next gift was totally cute football gloves and a hat, however mom strikes again and make Dallin two right hands. Okay, the lesson here is either store bought jammies next year or try them on someone before the big day!!

I'm a BLOGGER!

Since I am always the one to take pictures, then the only ones of me, ususally have someone else in them. Of course, I don't mind having a pictures with my sweetie at our 40th Birthday Party. I wasn't sure what we were holding, the thumbnail was too small to see when I was browsing, so at least I'm glad it is not the picture with the...hmmm, other items. Anyway, I am finally a blogger. Taylor was kind enough to fill in for me with her posts from last summer. Her memorial for the Josh Groban concert and then our wild times at Lagoon. But I figured, new year, new you....or some other sort of new years jargon, and I am now a blogger. I will accept full responsibility for spelling, pictures and goofy stories. So when you see that I haven't updated my blog in 3 months, you will know just who to blame. I've picked some of my favorite songs to entertain you while you are browsing through my blog and hopefully some good pictures. Feel free to check out the day in history below...I can't help it I graduated with a degree in History. Sad really, no one will play trivial pursuit with me - I lost William to the game early on, just after he lost me to Monopoly. We agreed to not play those two games and remain married and happy for a long long time. Anyway, Enjoy------- and thanks Tamara~

New Family Pet

So this is our new family pet. If you know anything about us Thomas' we are not animal people. Even though I grew up with dogs and cats...okay big dogs, not chihuahua's and a couple of cats that did not meet with a good fate. Spooky, named because he/she was black was kind of the alley cat that was not allowed into the house. It was my job to climbed the gigantic built in barbeque and put the food on the top shelf ( I wonder if I still have a picture of it - it was HUGE!) Anyway, Spooky got "beaten" up pretty bad in a cat fight. We lived in a pretty good neighborhood but as a I said, Spooky was an alley cat and I guess you can always find "bad cats" even in a good neighborhood. Our other cat, Patches, was a stupid cat that always left her tongue hanging out of her mouth. However the main reason of the cat story is to tell that Patches was also dumb enough to climb into our dryer......and yes, this does not end well. Picture a late Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles. It is the early 80's and Dick and Shirley are heading out for the evening and Melanie is home watching movies and her younger brother. Well, for Dick and Shirley to make a clean get away, they have to sneak out the back door, which can be blocked by an open dryer door. So, Shirley opens the dryer to retrieve a classic pair of tan cord's for Dick and leaves the door open. Once they are ready to leave, probably 5-10 minutes later, Dick and Shirley walk towards the back door, shut the dryer, turn it back on, and leave out the back door for their "getaway." Now, I am of course happy for some "movie" time and proceed to watch something on the TV. I begin to notice a tumping noise but try to ignore it as much as I can. However, it persists! My movie and the dryer finally end about 45 minutes later and I no longer hear the thumping, now I hear a faint meowing. I finally decide I better see what is going on when I realize that the meowing is coming from the dryer. I realize that this is not going to be a good sight, so I quickly call Vicki Barfield, our neighbor across the street and explain what I think has happened. Before Vicki gets to our house, I open the dryer and a very dizzy Patches somewhat crawls out. I am freaked out and do not want to touch her. She makes her way out of the dryer and about 10 feet into the kitchen, kind of twisting and crawling - and suddenly dies with paws outstretched. She is now buried in the Brown Cemetary with all the other animals that I grew up with.

Now, why do I tell you all this---my point is that I loved dogs, not cats too much, growing up but I was overruled by the Thomas tradition of not having pets. And so my daughters only choice is to have this musical Chihuahua that sings "Mamacita, donde esta Santa Claus..." So if you want to see this in person, stop by and our family will perform for you!
